Workshops are offered both afterschool and during the day, as part of our Homeschool series. Workshops are all in-person; current workshops offer caregivers the option to either drop off or work in the building while child participates independently. HomeSchool Series: Forces and Motion

Summer Robotics Pics 1About: What makes things move? What makes them stop moving? Join us as we explore the complexities of these seemingly simple questions. Participants will put their knowledge to the test as we design, build, and race our own cars.

AfterSchool Series: Baking Soda Science

Summer Robotics Pics 1About: In this class we will explore the science of baking soda. What purpose does it serve in baking? How does it work? We’ll do a few experiments to learn more about baking soda and then head into the kitchen where we’ll use its power to create some airy treats.

Ages: 8-12 years

6-week session / Thursdays 4:30-6pm

DATES: September 15, 22, 29; October 6, 13, 20

COVID-19 SAFETY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • At this time, TVCOG requires that all unvaccinated individuals, regardless of age, wear a mask while in the facility. We reserve the right to request proof of vaccination.  This policy includes instructors and TVCOG members who are using the facility; parents will also be asked to follow our mask policy when picking up their student. 
  • Students and parents will be asked to sign forms acknowledging and agreeing to these terms during the registration process. Parents/guardians will also be asked to sign forms acknowledging that they agree not to send their child to class if they have exhibited symptoms of, or been potentially exposed to, COVID-19. 

PAYMENT POLICIES AND FINANCIAL AID

  • Financial Aid: TVCOG has a limited amount of funds set aside to provide financial assistance to families with demonstrated financial need. The amount offered varies depending on demand. Due to the limited amount of funds available, we reccommend those interested reach out as soon as possible. Funds generously provided thanks to the sponsorship of the Albany Society of Engineers Foundation.

  • COG Member Discounts: Current COG members receive a $20 discount, which will be automatically applied during the registration process. You must be signed in to your account in order for the discount to be applied.

  • Late Registration Fee: To keep our classes affordable, we book our instructors and purchase materials in advance. We depend on advanced registration. Classes without sufficient advanced enrollment may be canceled. Advanced registration closes 5 business days before the class date. Reservations made after this date will be subject to a $25 late registration fee. If applicable, late registration will remain open until the morning of the first day of class. 

  • Cancellations and Refunds: Cancellations must be made 10 business days before the initial workshop start date in order to qualify for a refund. Cancellations made after this date will not be refunded, unless due to illness. 
  • Payment Plans: Payment plans are available by request. The payment plan allows families to break the workshop fee into two segments; $135 up front at registration, and $135 due by the start of workshop #4. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • About our Instructor: STEAM Studio workshops are created and held by Leiana Hawkins, our THINQubator Coordinator. Leiana is an enthusiastic Maker, science teacher and mother of two. She currently works at the Robert C. Parker School, leads additional children’s programs at the Voorheesville Community Library and serves as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. 
  • Additional Forms: After registering, participants will receive additional forms to fill out before class begins. This will include forms listing who is authorized to pick up your child, health concerns etc. Please complete them promptly. 
  • Student Behavior Policy: As an organization, our motto and code of conduct is "Be excellent to each other." Every TVCOG member and anyone participating in a TVCOG program is expected to follow that code. Students will be asked to sign a Student Behavior Agreement form at the beginning of each session outlining and agreeing to those terms, which currently also includes our COVID-19 policies. We have a three strikes policy for incidents, with class instructors deciding what constitutes a strike. Children with three strikes will be asked to leave; no refunds will be given in this circumstance.
  • Accessibility: TVCOG strives for ADA compliance and in accordance with Title II will make reasonable accommodations as needed when we can. The building itself is accessible to wheelchair users and others who need to avoid stairs. 
  • Late Pickup: At this time, we do not offer a late pickup option.
